Legislation on hydropower

Germany adopted a number of pieces of national legislation on establishing and operating hydropower plants, based on European Directives such as the EIA Directive, the Habitats Directive and the Water Framework Directive – WFD. Legislation includes:

• Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) (in German only)
• Federal Water Act (WHG) (in German only)
• Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG)
