2008 Annual Report on Research Funding in the Renewable Energies Sector
In the 21st century, economy and ecology are inextricably linked. In this spirit, the German Government continued its ambitious climate policy during 2008 by launching its integrated energy and climate protection package. In the current economic climate, this raft of measures – which includes increasing the use of renewable energies via the Renewable Energy Sources Act, the Heat Act and the Market Incentive Programme – has a stabilising effect, and therefore also makes good economic sense.
This Annual Report provides a detailed insight into the research funded by the German Environment Ministry, and also touches on the support available from other Government departments. The report has been designed to make the latest research findings and trends available to a wider audience. Its breadth and content have grown considerably in recent years, reflecting both the continuous rise in the level of funding available, as well as the increased range of topics. These are condensing into an ever more densely interwoven network, forging close connections between the various renewable energy sources and incorporating interdisciplinary aspects such as the optimisation of energy supply systems, energy storage, electro-mobility and international cooperation.
