Gross employment from renewable energy in Germany in 2010

Employment attributable to the renewable energy sector in Germany has risen steadily in recent years, including in 2010. According to initial estimates as part of an ongoing research project by the Federal Environment Ministry (BMU), gross employment in 2010 totalled almost 370,000 jobs. Compared to the year before (around 340,000 jobs) this is an increase of almost 10 percent, compared to 2004 it is more than double.

The assumptions and background information providing the basis for the 2010 estimates are outlined in a study that also shows the employment figures for the individual branches. More detailed information about the analysis of the impacts of renewable energy on the labour market can be found in the recently published project report by the same research team.
