Areas Funded

The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) provides funding for research and development (R&D) in the renewable energy sector within the framework of the German Federal Government’s Energy Research Programme. Funding is provided for projects in the following fields:

• Photovoltaics
• Low-temperature solar thermal power
• Solar thermal power plants
• Wind energy
• Geothermal energy
• Hydropower and ocean energy
• Cross-cutting activities

The responsibility for funding biomass R&D lies with the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV).
