Offshore wind farm officially opened
On 27 April 2010 Federal Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen attended the opening of the first German offshore wind farm 'alpha ventus', located around 45 km off the coast of the island of Borkum.
On this occasion, Minister Röttgen underlined the significance of offshore wind power for the energy mix of the future: "Offshore wind farms play a significant role. Our aim is to achieve an installed offshore capacity of 25,000 MW by 2030. Alpha ventus is the beginning, the pioneering work paving the way to the age of renewable energies. Investors, manufacturers of installations and grid operators have taken great risks with this test site. The unabated commitment, perseverance and creativity have paid off: all future offshore wind farms will benefit from the experience gained in the construction of alpha ventus."
