Biomass Ordinance (BiomasseV)

Biomass Ordinance (as amended as of 1 January 2012)

The Biomass Ordinance stipulates which substances are recognised as biomass under the tariff provisions of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), specifies which technical processes for electricity generation from biomass are covered by the Renewable Energy Sources Act, and lays down the environmental standards which electricity generation from biomass has to meet. The revision of the Renewable Energy Sources Act, adopted by the Bundestag on 30 June 2011 and passed by the Bundesrat on 8 July 2011, also made comprehensive amendments to the Biomass Ordinance (BiomasseV) which become effective on 1 January 2012.

Based on Federal Government's draft (Bundestag printed paper 17/6071, in German only) and the decision of the German Bundestag (Bundestag printed paper 17/6363), the Federal Ministry for the Environment has compiled a consolidated (non-binding) translation of the amended Biomass Ordinance in the version in force as of 1 January 2012.
